Your Business’ Online Appearance

August, 2024
There are many factors that go into how your business appears online. Your website, social media channels, and other venues and strategies all contribute to a big-picture understanding of what your business is about. This “image” will either attract people or cause them to look elsewhere. Of course, you want to attract customers that you can serve well. That said, let’s consider a few elements that are worth reviewing to ensure your business appears as fantastic as it truly is!
We encourage you to take time to ask yourself a few questions and make some adjustments if necessary.
Your brand and “image” will either attract people or cause them to look elsewhere
1. How easy is it to find your business online?
If a potential site visitor searches for your product or service, can they find you? If you want to see what others see when they search for your business, do a quick search yourself, and see what comes up. This will give you a feel for the competition and for a piece of the “big picture” you are presenting. A Google business profile (and some good SEO strategies) can go a long way in raising you up through the ranks.
2. What is the online vibe of your business?
Does your online presence reflect the personality of your business? Do your website, social media channels, and other avenues of connection convey what your business is about? This is where color schemes, logos, and graphics are powerful! If you haven’t done much with branding, this would be a great launching pad toward.
3. Does what you’re presenting invite people to connect with you?
Do you post in a way that builds connection with potential customers? Do you use language that is relevant to your audience and true to your brand? When you can do both simultaneously, you’re hitting the target!
Does your online presence reflect the personality of your business?
Once you’ve taken some time to answer these questions and your wheels are turning, here are some things you can do and/or review:
Your Website
It probably goes without saying that a user-friendly, appealing, and efficient website is a huge window into the character and nature of your business. As we mentioned above, branding can help here, and selecting colors, design elements, and other components of your site can really help to hone in on the feel of your company.
SEO
By leveraging best SEO practices, you can increase your ranking when potential customers search for your products or services. It’s important to factor in SEO to all website builds, revisions, and blog posts. The role of great SEO is to get you to the top of the lists where you will thrive!
Social Media
It’s better to have a few social media channels and use them regularly than to have many channels and rarely post anything. That said, regardless of how many channels you’re using, regular posting will increase your visibility and reach. This can be a great avenue to convey your business’ values and give your audience a feel for who you are.

Connections
It’s been said that word-of-mouth is the best form of advertising. Most small business owners know the value of networking and that these relationships can be priceless. Consider some folks you’d like to bring into your network. Making a point to build these relationships can be mutually beneficial in adding credibility to each of you, as well as growing your audiences. But remember this: at the end of the day, your user/customer experience must live up to all the great things people are hearing about your business!
